01 Jan Step up your Skincare in 2019 with Skin Peels
Step up your skincare in 2019 with skin peels and resurfacers.
Make 2019 the year you take control of your skincare routine. A few simple changes can make all the difference, whether it’s remembering to remove your makeup at the end of each day or treating yourself to a monthly facial!
But if you’re really looking to step up your skincare in 2019, let’s talk skin peels and resurfacers – the treatments that can totally transform your skin.
Skin Peels and Resurfacers: What’s the difference?
If you’re new to the world of peels, this section is for you! Basically, skin peels and resurfacers have similar objectives – they work to exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin, however the intensity levels of the treatments vary.
Resurfacers are mild peels that offer more superficial results. Their enzymes and acids are designed to refine and exfoliate the top layer of the skin only, meaning there is little-to-no downtime following a treatment.
Chemical skin peels are much more intense and designed to penetrate the mid-to-lower levels of the epidermis. The level of exfoliation is much stronger and as they are so deeply penetrating, you can expect downtime of up to ten days following.
DermaQuest Skin Peels and Resurfacers: Keeping it Natural
When it comes to treating the skin, it’s best to keep things as natural as possible. This is why I champion DermaQuest peels and resurfacers. DermaQuest harness the exfoliating properties of natural acids derived from fruit, nuts and milk, such as Lactic, Mandelic, Glycolic and Salicylic acid. These naturally occurring acids all work to clean the pores, remove dead skin cells and stimulate skin cell rejuvenation.
Skin peels and Resurfacers: What to expect
Unlike with a facial, you can’t just turn up at your skin peel appointment without a little preparation. Here I’ll take you through the necessary steps so you know exactly what to expect and answer some skin peel FAQs.
Consultation & patch test
Before a skin peel or resurfacer treatment can be performed, every client must undergo a consultation. This consultation (which I offer for free) is carried out so I can assess the client’s skin and advise them on the best treatment for their desired results. I will also discuss the importance of preparing the skin for a peel and the aftercare procedure. A patch test must be carried out at least 72 hours prior to a skin peel or resurfacer.
What do Peels and Resurfacers feel like?
I often get asked whether skin peels hurt and it’s a hard one to answer as everyone feels things differently. What I can tell you is that it’s perfectly normal for the skin to feel warm, tingly and a little bit tight.
If you’re going for a full chemical peel, you’re likely to feel even hotter during its application. Don’t panic. The solution will neutralise itself very quickly (within about 3 minutes.) The warming feeling is actually a good sign that the ingredients are actively penetrating the skin and working their magic on its lower layers.
Why does my skin look worse than before?
The immediate results of a skin peel can be a little daunting for clients. You may even question whether your skin actually looks any better. It is completely normal for your skin to look worse before it looks better after a skin peel. Please don’t panic!
Benefits of skin peels and resurfacers
Once your skin has settled down, you should see an overall improvement after just one treatment. Skin peels and resurfacers will make your skin appear smoother and more radiant. They can also reduce breakouts, blemishes and signs of ageing.
If you have a severe skin condition, multiple treatments may be required in order to achieve your desired results. This is something that will be discussed and planned at your initial consultation.
