Laser Tattoo Removal

Have you decided it’s time to do something about an unwanted tattoo?

Colours such as black, blue, red and dark brown are easier to treat and can be reduced to the point where you can barely see the outline, but you may still see a bit of ink resembling a faint bruise.

Not all Tattoos can be completely removed.  In these instances it is quite common to have some residual ink left in the skin.

How the process works

HOW DOES TATTOO REMOVAL WORK?

To remove the tattoo, we subject it to concentrated pulses of high-powered laser light. These pass safely through the skin and are absorbed by the tattoo ink particles, shattering them into sufficiently small pieces for your natural immune defences to absorb and disperse the ink.  Over a series of treatments, a gradual fading of the tattoo occurs.

DO I NEED TO HAVE A PATCH TEST?

Yes, patch tests are carried out to determine the treatment parameters and to judge how your skin and the tattoo might react to a full treatment. During a patch test a small area of your tattoo will be treated.

HOW EFFECTIVE IS IT?

Colours such as black, blue, red and dark brown are easier to treat and can be reduced to the point where you can barely see the outline, but you may still see a bit of ink resembling a faint bruise.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

Treatment time is generally up to 30 minutes depending on the size of the tattoo.  A course of 8 to 12 treatments is usually required, typically at 8-12 week intervals.

DOES LASER TATTOO REMOVAL HURT?

Most clients describe the sensation as similar to a pin prick or the flick of an elastic band.

An instant whitening of the skin is seen after treatment, but this generally fades quickly. The area is likely to feel tender for a few hours and can be red and swollen for up to 48-hours. Some tattoos will form a graze which must be left to heal naturally.

Initially the tattoo is unlikely to look any different but will fade over the next four to eight weeks as the body disperses the ink particles.

SEMI-PERMANENT COSMETIC MAKEUP REMOVAL

We can work on eyebrows that have had cosmetic tattoos and can achieve a good result after just a few treatments.

Please note, we do not treat eyeliner or lip liner with Laser removal treatment.  However, we can remove these using Saline tattoo removal.

Who can’t have this treatment?

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Diabetes
  • Permanent use of blood thinning medication
  • Keloid Scarring
  • Suntan or fake tan – wait for it to fade

Why is tattoo removal AFTERCARE so important?

Remember, the lasers used are pretty powerful, so it is vital to take steps to avoid any subsequent irritation, infection or hyperpigmentation.

  • Wash the area frequently and thoroughly with warm water.
  • We may recommended the use of a gentle antibacterial solution.
  • Avoid any potential irritants such as perfumes, scrubs, soaps or any highly scented products.
  • A simple ice pack is a great way to soothe the area.
  • We also recommend Aloe Vera Gel or Lynton light Soothe.
  • We may advise you to wear a bandage or a sterile dressing and to avoid tight clothes, plus any itchy fabrics.
  • Wear loose-fitting, natural fibres.

  • Encourage your skin’s natural healing process

Occasionally, scabs and/or blisters may form after your laser tattoo removal treatment. But do not worry, this is a positive sign that your skin has started to heal.

  • DO NOT pick or burst them as this could increase the risk of infection.
  • Blisters that burst by themselves are quite normal.
  • Avoid Hot Baths, Swimming Pools and Hot Tubs.

Stepping up your sun protection!

  • SPF becomes even more important after a tattoo removal treatment, because the affected area is likely to become more sensitive than usual to sunlight.
  • Avoid Prolonged Sun Exposure during the healing process even in the winter!
