01 Nov Dermaplaning – Your Questions Answered!
Dermaplaning is a treatment I often get asked about at the salon. It’s something a lot of people are interested in but don’t really know a lot about. With this in mind, I thought I’d put together a post featuring the benefits of Dermaplaning, along with answers to some of your most frequently asked questions…enjoy!
So what exactly is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a non-invasive exfoliation treatment, which aims to improve the look and feel of the skin on your face. It involves using a sterile surgical scalpel but don’t worry, it’s not as daunting as it sounds! To put it simply, the surgical scalpel is held at a 45-degree angle and is gently brushed across the surface of the face. Firstly, to remove dead skin cells. Secondly, to get rid of unwanted peach fuzz (the little soft hairs on your face.) The result? Much smoother skin.
Benefits of Dermaplaning
- Get younger looking skin – Boosts collagen and stimulates the production of new skin cells, helping to achieve a more youthful complexion.
- Target acne and spot prone skin – Great for reducing the appearance of acne, spots, blackheads and enlarged pores.
- Banish unwanted facial hair – Effective in removing the soft hairs on the face that collect dirt and oils, allowing for a smoother complexion.
- Make skincare products more effective – Dermaplaning will make the active ingredients in your skincare products more effective, by allowing for deeper penetration.
Dermaplaning FAQs
Does it hurt?
Unlike other hair removal treatments, Dermaplaning is virtually painless. The use of a surgical scalpel often tricks people into thinking it’s invasive. However, this is not the case. In fact, my clients often comment on how relaxing it is. As with all treatments at my salon in Bromley, I aim to make Dermaplaning a luxurious experience for all clients.
Will Dermaplaning make me grow a beard?
Simply put, no you won’t grow a beard! It’s a complete myth that your facial hair will grow back thicker and faster after Dermaplaning. Yes, the peach fuzz will return. After all, it’s not permanent hair removal but as the hair follicle is not changed in any way, it will grow back the same. No beard, we promise!
How long does it take?
Dermaplaning treatments are approximately 45 minutes long, which is not a long time to take out of your busy schedule to relax and improve your skin, is it?
How often do you need Dermaplaning treatments?
It’s best if your skin completes it’s natural rejuvenation cycle. We’ll book your Dermaplaning treatments every 4-6 weeks to allow for this.
Are there any side effects?
Most people don’t experience any negative side effects, however, your skin might be a little pinker after the treatment. This will usually disappear within a few hours. What will be apparent is just how smooth and soft your skin looks and feels. You should have a brighter, more youthful complexion and may even see a reduction in fine lines, hyperpigmentation and scarring.
