Autumn Skin Peels & Resurfacers

Did you know that Autumn is the best time to book Skin Peels (also known as Chemical Peels) and Resurfacers? Known as ‘Skin Peel Season’, this time of year is ideal for deeper exfoliating skin treatments, as there is far less sun to contend with than in the summer.

Here at Becky Laroc Beauty and Aesthetics in Bromley, we offer a full range of Dermaquest Skin Peels and Resurfacers, each of which provides various skin benefits. So stick with us as we talk you through the difference between chemical peels and resurfacers, their benefits and how to prep your skin to achieve the best results.

What’s the difference between Chemical Peels and Resurfacers?

It’s good to understand the difference between chemical peels and resurfacers. Essentially, a chemical peel exfoliates the skin on a deep level. It is considered an advanced skincare treatment as it targets the epidermis’s top, mid and lower levels for strong, extended results. Chemical peels are so active and deeply penetrating that you should expect downtime of up to 10 days.

Resurfacers are mild peels and ‘superficial’ skin treatments. They only work on the very top layers of the epidermis, using enzymes and acids to refine and exfoliate. Unlike skin peels, resurfacers have little to no downtime, so you could even enjoy one on your lunch break from work!

What are the benefits of Skin Peels?

Dermaquest Skin Peels and Resurfacers are suitable for different skin types and concerns. All of the treatments are safe and non-invasive. However, we always conduct a patch test and full consultation to ensure these exfoliating skin treatments suit you.

Some of the benefits you can expect from skin peels include:

  • Brighter, smoother and more refined skin
  • Improved overall tone and texture
  • Improved skin colour, clarity, tone and texture
  • Reduced skin discolouration caused by sun damage
  • Skin hydration
  • Stimulates new collagen
  • Addresses skin imperfections
  • Increases effectiveness of at-home skincare products
  • Transform, revive & rejuvenate skin
  • Target skin concerns from the inside out, including acne, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, fine lines & other signs of ageing

How to choose the right chemical peel

The best way to ensure you choose the right skin peel is to book a skin consultation with Becky at our skin clinic in Bromley. During your skin consultation, Becky will assess your skin, discuss your current skincare regime and find out what improvements you hope to make. In addition, it’s essential to make us aware of any medical conditions or medications you take.

Suitable for all skin types – including sensitive skin, this is a go-to resurfacer for clients looking to improve skin texture, even out skin tone and enjoy a beautiful autumn glow.

Best for clients new to resurfacers and desiring a gentle exfoliating treatment.

Pumpkin Resurfacer

A seasonal skincare favourite, the Dermaquest Power Pumpkin resurfacer is the ideal treatment for acne breakouts, scarring, uneven skin tone and enlarged pores. Infused with Salicylic Acid, it delivers intense hydration and gentle exfoliation, resulting in a visibly brighter complexion.

Best for clients with oily, acne-prone skin.

TCA Salicylic Acid Peel

Restore and heal damaged skin with an age-fighting fusion of 2% Salicylic Acid and 7% Trichloroacetic Acid. This potent chemical peel is perfect for targeting fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin, deeply penetrating the epidermis layers to deliver substantial exfoliation and leave your skin smooth, even and revitalised.

We recommend this skin peel for those with moderate ageing and texture concerns. It’s safe for all Fitzpatrick skin types, but we always conduct a patch test first for resurfacer and chemical peel treatments. As a reminder, with chemical peels, up to 10 days of downtime is expected.

SkinBrite Peel

Battling resistant hyperpigmentation, dull and lifeless skin and hormonal breakouts? SkinBrite is the chemical peel for you. Combining lactic, mandelic and phytic acids, the SkinBrite Peels brightens the complexion, balances skin tone, and fights against hyperpigmentation due to acne scarring and hormonal fluctuations.

Please note this treatment is not suitable for those with sensitive skin. Patch test required & downtime expected.

Salicylic Acid Peel

This is an advanced ‘physician-level’ peel with 30% Salicylic Acid, designed to deeply penetrate and decongest the skin follicles to target blemish-causing bacteria and release hardened sebum. The Salicylic Acid Peel also contains beta hydroxy acid, which helps to reduce and prevent future breakouts.

This treatment suits those with advanced acne concerns and skin texture issues—patch test & downtime required.

Modified Jessner Peel

The Dermaquest Modified Jessner Peel is an acne management treatment uniquely formulated to prevent persistent breakouts, calm current blemishes, and reduce unwanted pigmentation caused by acne scarring. Resorcinol exfoliates the skin to clear dead cells, reducing excess oil and leaving the skin smooth and clear.

We recommend the Modified Jessner Peel to clients with stubborn acne to reduce post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and calm inflammation. Patch test and downtime required.

How to prep your skin for a chemical peel

Because skin peels are a very intense exfoliating treatment, it’s essential to make sure you prepare your skin correctly. Prepping the skin for a peel will avoid unwanted irritation and side effects. Additionally, it’ll maximise the benefits of your skin peel.

Some of our top skin peel preparation tips include:

  • Avoiding exfoliation for at least 1 week before treatment (this includes products that contain exfoliating ingredients)
  • Avoiding applying makeup in the days before your treatment – you want your skin to be as clean as possible
  • Avoiding sun exposure – apply SP30 to prevent sun damage (no tanning booths either, please)
  • Keeping your skin hydrated – drink plenty of water and avoid any skincare products that will dry out your skin
  • No smoking
  • Avoiding chemical hair removal treatments and waxing 5-7 days before treatment
  • Avoiding chemical injection treatments like Botox at least 1 week before your peel

During your skin peel consultation, Becky will advise you on the best skincare products to ensure your skin is ready for the peel. It’s also important to ensure that if you have your COVID-19 booster injection, you leave 2 weeks on either side when booking a skin peel or any other chemical or injectable skin treatments.

What to expect post-peel or resurfacer

With some chemical peels, you might feel like your skin looks worse before it looks better. It’s perfectly normal, and we’ll warn you if this is likely the case, but please feel free to raise any concerns with Becky.

Once things have calmed down a little, you will notice that your overall skin tone and complexion appear smoother, fresher and more radiant. If you have undergone a resurfacer or peel for acne, you should also begin to notice a reduction in breakouts and blemishes. And if you’ve opted for an anti-ageing peel, you will also see improvements to fine lines, wrinkles and skin laxity.

We may recommend multiple treatments for optimal, lasting results. We’ll discuss this at your skin consultation and assess your skin to provide a bespoke treatment plan.
