Valentine’s Day – 6 Cliché-Free Date Ideas

Valentines-Day-Date-Ideas

Valentine’s Day is a little bit like Marmite don’t you think? You either love it or hate it. On one hand, it’s a ‘made-up’ day that is completely commercialised but on the other, it’s kind of nice having a day dedicated to showing loved ones how you feel and it doesn’t have to be a cheese-fest! In fact, if you’re looking for a cliché-free, non-cheesy way to spend the day, take a look at some of our Valentine’s Day date ideas below…

  1. Bonfire & marshmallows

There’s something so romantic and lovely about sitting around a fire, sharing stories and toasting marshmallows. It’s a unique way to spend your Valentine’s evening and works for both couples and those celebrating the day of love as a family.

  1. Chocolate making date

Instead of buying overpriced chocolates for Valentine’s Day, why not book a chocolate making course for you and your partner? It’s something fun you can do together, you may learn a new skill and you’ll end up with tasty chocolates at the end. Sounds good right?

  1. Comedy club

If you don’t fancy an overly romantic date on Valentine’s Day, head to a local comedy club and laugh the night away! This one’s great for those feeling a little anti-Valentine’s or those celebrating Galentine’s Day (a celebration of female friendship) instead.

  1. Spa day

Whether you’re looking to pamper your partner or treat your best mate, make Valentine’s a day of relaxation by booking a spa day. Just keep in mind that like many businesses, spas sometimes increase their prices on Valentine’s Day. So if you are looking to save a little money, book yourselves in the week before or after instead!

  1. Cook at home together

As we’ve just mentioned, many businesses tend to increase their prices on Valentine’s Day, including restaurants, which often have expensive set menus. But you don’t need to spend a small fortune on a meal, to show your loved one how much they mean to you. Why not cook them a special meal at home or even better, cook together? Couple cooking sessions are super fun and you can still make it romantic, dining by candlelight.

  1. Visit an open-air cinema

Going to the cinema is a bit of a cliché Valentine’s date but going to an open-air cinema is in a totally different league. Open-air cinemas are becoming more and more common, so be sure to check local event listings to see if there’s one near you. Just remember to wrap up and take extra blankets. Things can get a little chilly but it’s the perfect excuse to snuggle!
